How to draw a rectangle or oval outline in Photoshop Elements

This seems easy, but I always forget how to do it. Let’s say you have a picture and you want to highlight part of it by drawing a rectangle around one section. Like this:

The summit of Mount Pilatus near Lucerne, Switzerland

Here’s how to do it with Photoshop Elements:

  1. Choose the Rectangular marquee tool rectangular marquee tool (you can also use the Elliptical marquee tool elliptical marquee tool).
  2. Draw a rectangle around the area you want to highlight.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Stroke (Outline) Selection…
  4. Set the Width and Color, and press OK.

Then I used the Horizontal type tool horizontal type tool to add the text.
